With the help of all our businesses and the customers who have signed up for a SLICE Card, we collect money monthly and donate to a local charity. It’s an excellent way of giving back to those in need and supporting your local community. We have been overwhelmed by those who are helping us to do this so far, but we are always looking for more support from more businesses in and around South London.
Our first chosen charity is The Back Up Trust, a local Wandsworth charity who help transform the lives of those who have suffered a spinal cord injury, last year they celebrated their 30th Anniversary. Over the last 30 years they have been busy building awareness on the perceptions of disability and helping to build confidence and independence of those who have gone through a life altering accident.
The charity was founded in 1986 by Mike Nemesvary, a former British and European Freestyle Champion and James Bond stunt double. He tragically broke his neck during a training session, but despite being paralysed from the shoulders down, Mike was determined to get his life back.
The Back Up Trust was initially set up, offering ski courses for those affected by spinal cord injuries. But now the services and support have expanded into challenging and empowering people to get their lives back and to enjoy activities as they once did before their accident. Other services they offer include mentoring, wheelchair skills training and activity courses as well as support in getting back to work or school after an injury. They believe that people should get the most out of life, even after a devastating accident.
We’re so happy to be supporting The Back Up Trust and having them be our first SLICE Card charity.
Why not sign up for a SLICE Card today and you can help us to give back to the community and support The Back Up trust and those who have suffered spinal cord injuries.
